CD/DVD Wall Cabinet
Bird Marquetry

Hi to all -

Have not been around the board too much -
  • Life has been pretty busy -
  • Very nice to see "d in c" back.

  • Pictures of a wall cabinet -
  • designed for cd/dvds, but the
  • shelves are adjustable - so
  • could accomodate most anything.

  • Cabinet is
  • 32" tall,
  • 15" across, and
  • 6" deep at the side walls.

  • Main body and door is
  • African Mahogany.

  • The bird is Marquetry - which is
  • cutting-in the colored wood
  • into a veneer that is the same thickness
  • no physical 3d carving - just some
  • hot sand shading to make it look 3 dimensional.

  • The bird is mostly
  • Bocote,
  • Myrtle,
  • Osage Orange, &
  • Gabon Ebony.

  • The branch is
  • Makore,
  • Berries Pernambuco,
  • leaves Poplar.

  • The white border is German Maple.

  • I built a wood form for vacuum pressing.

  • I have not tried making a form from styrofoam -
  • but it is on the list to play with.
  • Have not seen Darryl Keil's video, on
  • veneering curves, yet.
  • Have heard good things about it.

  • The door was made by
  • vacuum pressing 5 layers of
  • 1/8 bending ply to form the core.

  • Once the veneers & marquetry were done
  • it was pressed again.

  • Finish is the usual
  • shellac,
  • polished, and
  • wax
  • Thanks for looking

    Jerry
